Abstract: The two-dimensional, time-dependent, reactive Navier-Stokes equations including the effects of viscosity, thermal conduction and molecular diffusion were solved to reveal the vortex structures and vortex dynamics involved in gaseous detonation flow fields. The computation was performed for hydrogen-oxygen-argon mixtures at the low initial pressure, using detailed chemical reaction model. The results show that, a large amount of vortices forms in detonation flow fields. The intrinsic three-dimensional structures, wall geometry with sudden area change or the shock wave possibly causes the slip line to lose its stability, and then induces the vortex generation. The slip lined in marginal detonation is more unstable and produces more vortices than that in ordinary detonation.
